civil war 365
another illustration for 365observations.com
for an explanation: obama is winning the south and hillary is winning the north as far as which states they've won. i'm not really sure what dylan plans on writing about on 365observations, but this is what he asked for -- obama and clinton in a standoff with rifles. obama in a confederate uniform and clinton in a union one.
i'm really happy with how the image itself came out, regardless of what it's supposed to be about. I used one of those pigma graphic 1mm pens to draw it instead of my usual brush/ink or rapidographs. I like the chunkiness of the lines and the washed out colors i used. i think i might try some future illustrations with this same method in the future. especially since i can carry this pen with me easier than i can brush/ink.

i used to LOVE david the gnome as a kid. it was truly a toss-up between it and inspector gadget as to which was my favorite. the other night, i realized... the internet is an amazing place... CERTAINLY david the gnome can be found on it somewhere. sure enough!!

in my defense, i had no real clue who she was at the time, and I was in the middle of dealing with my parents' divorce, so I was particularly self-centered and shallow minded.

new discovery: payne's grey + cadmium orange=same color as ink wash!! AND it doesn't bleed through the page. yay. thanks navan.ghee for the reminder that ink is a solution and water color is more of a suspension. it does indeed work.
this is what i imagine my wife's work to be like. she does imports cost sheet management stuff for Steve&Barry's. A cog in the machine.

the sad truth (p. 1 of 2)
Based on an incident last Thursday. True for more people than just myself. Seriously, though, I hate it when stuff like this happens. I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt and say that he wasn't saying it in the "oh, you poor girl" sort of way but more the "it's good to see a girl doing this" but still with a tinge of "what a rare amusement!" It came off rather patronizing. Sigh. I hate feeling like I need to justify doing manual labor or having the ability to actually build things simply because of what's between my legs.

oh. my.
I just cleaned out the bathroom sink drain. It was possibly one of the most disgusting things I've EVER done. This black/grey mass of goo/hair/who knows what else came out with the stopper. Then I had to poke the drain a bit with the end of a metal knitting needle to pull out the rest of the stuff trapped in there.
But. Totally worth it. The sink drains now!

Voo Doo Cover
Somehow I got convinced to make a cover for Voo Doo (MIT's humor magazine), and this is what came out. The theme of this issue is explaining all the humor behind the jokes, hence "Exposed!" For those who don't know, Phos the cat (the flasher, here) is Voo Doo's mascot.
I think it came out relatively well. I wish I would've spaced and sized the title a bit better, though. I didn't have a ruler, though, and was pressed for time.

So, I've started to do this collaboration with navan.ghee on Flickr. Basically, we're trading off page at a time, each person giving the other person three words as a prompt. No crosshatching. No greyscale. This is page one (him).
